Flamingos Schüler win 12 to 5 against the TiB Braves

The Flamingos Schüler hosted the TiB Braves on Saturday the 21st of May at Flamingo Field. The Braves, who were previously named the Rangers, were only able to travel with eight players which gave the Flamingos an extra advantage. Erik Ortiz took the mound and held the Rangers to one run. The leadoff batter worked out a walk on a full count but Erik struck out the next batter on three pitches. The Braves’ third batter in the lineup grounded out to Liam Horn at first base. An RBI ground rule double by the cleanup hitter scored the first run of the game and Erik recovered with another strike out to end the inning.

Despite the rare lead off strike out for starting catcher John Luis Márquez Ramirez, the Flamingos dominated the bottom of the first. Cedric Clicqué started the rally with a double and scored when Jason Hosnedl reached second base on an error by the shortstop. Consecutive RBI ground rule doubles by Erik and Felix Otten was followed with a walk by Liam Horn. Joel Bloch also reached first on a walk. Liam scored the fifth run when the rookie, Colin Keegan, had an RBI single in his first ever at bat to end the inning.

The Flamingos shut out the Braves in the top of the second off of continued strong pitching from Erik. A ground out to the pitcher was followed by Erik’s second full count walk. And like the previous time, he followed up with a three pitch strike out. The Flamingos were aided by the automatic out in the 9 hole to end the half inning. In the bottom of the second, the Flamingos again maxed out with five runs with John Luis, Cedric, Jason, Erik, Felix, and Colin all reaching home. Joel Bloch also is credited with an RBI on a ground out to the pitcher.

Cedric made his pitching debut in the third inning and managed to hold the Braves to four runs as he was also aided by the automatic out to end the inning. The leadoff batter was thrown out trying to steal third since he left the base line while Liam was ready to tag him out. John Luis threw out another runner trying to steal second base for the second out of the inning.

Celina Hajduk, who relieved John Herbst in right field, was promptly hit in the thigh to start the bottom of the third inning. Celina toughed it out and made her way around the bases but was hit into a force out at home. Noah Skibo made his return and reached base on a walk and later scored. John Luis also drew a walk and scored in the inning.

With the lead and needing just three outs to end the game, John Luis took the mound to start the fourth inning. Cedric made yet another debut and replaced John Luis behind the plate. The Flamingos finished strong behind John Luis’ pitching as he recorded two strike outs and only one walk. The game ended as Jason Hosnedl secured a ground ball to second for the unassisted putout.

Felix Ortiz also played left field but had no at bat as the Flamingos did not bat in the bottom of the final inning.
